World of Afternoon Tea founder and speaker Gillian Perry MBE
Gillian is based in London, but has given talks all over the UK, as well as in the USA, Canada and on cruise ships around the world. She has been making education an enjoyable and enriching experience most of her professional career. In 2010 she received an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to education from Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II, presented at Buckingham Palace by Charles, Prince of Wales, now King Charles III.
Her speaking style is warm and engaging, and her richly illustrated talks are filled with fascinating and surprising facts about how we came to enjoy drinking and eating tea, and of the intriguing people who made this happen. However, there are also some surprising controversies surrounding some of the best loved elements of our afternoon tea table.
In 2022, due to many requests, Gillian’s first book on the topic was published. Read about it here
Gillian is a member of the Guild of Food Writers and regularly broadcasts in the UK and USA. She reviews afternoon tea establishments for Beau Monde Traveller magazine, and writes columns for a range of titles.
As a renowned educator, she has visited the White House to advise First Lady Michelle Obama’s team, sat on government advisory committees, and been honoured by a day named after her in the city of Los Altos in California.
