All about you

While snowmobiling out amid the stunning scenery of Crater Lake in Oregon last winter Amelia Cooney made sure she found time for an invigorating cup of tea to enhance the experience of taking in the views around her.

With thanks to her mother Amy Roberts for sending this lovely photo to World of Afternoon Tea.

Teatime in the snow – Amelia Cooney at Crater Lake Oregon

“My wife and I are reminded of a conversation with a hotelier back in the 1990s. He offered cream teas at his Cornish B&B and recounted to us an incident he once had with an American customer.

This customer had complained strongly about the quality of the product, both the tea to be drunk and the disappointing additions for the scones. Apparently, he had not realised that the cream was for the scones and had instead put it into his cup of tea!” Mike Snow, in a recollection shared with World of Afternoon Tea.

(To understand the customer’s error, you should know that Americans refer to milk to be added to a cup of tea as ‘cream’).

Georgiana’s tea party

Georgiana Allen is a sparkling 14 year old girl whom I had the pleasure of meeting in Boise, Idaho this summer. She happens to have a passion for afternoon tea and was anxious to share with me photos of a tea party she had recently put on for her teenage friends. I think she is rightly proud of her baking and presentation. Well done Georgiana!

World of Afternoon Tea would live to see images of your own special tea parties, especially those created by and for younger people.

Double the talent

LA Jak are two highly creative and stunning looking sisters who make equally beautiful cookies and cakes. They were trained in the culinary arts at George Brown College Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts in Toronto.

Having spotted some of their patisserie output on Facebook (take a look!), I am thrilled to give them a promotion. Their aesthetic talents extend beyond the culinary arts to having a great eye for fashion and photography.

Warning though, they are still based in Toronto, but if you happen to be in the city, look out for them.
